Here are minutes of the Skate Park Meeting we held with Mayor Monson, the four Town Supervisors, Youth Director Penny Shockley and NR/W Business Administrator Robert Magin on Wednesday, July 16.
For your information, the present status of the plans can be summarized as follows: The Park will be located on the existing tennis courts of the NR/W middle school. In their recent meeting the School Board voted to make this location available. The Town Supervisors will request their boards to turn over available NY State youth activity funds towards supervision of the Skate Park. The group of Supervisors will also make the agreement with the School Board regarding the use of the tennis courts as a Skate Park. The Village of Wolcott will be administering the Park. Fundraising, grant requests and publicity will be done by the Skate Park Committee. Further details still need to be worked out, including an informational meeting with the residents living next to the proposed location.

WOLCOTT AREA SKATE PARK MEETING MINUTES, JULY 16, 2008
Those present: Wolcott Mayor John Monson, Town Supervisors Laurie Crane, Dave Spickerman, Kim Park and Lucinda Collier; Wayne Co Dept of Aging and Youth Director Penny Shockley, NR/W Central School District Business Administrator Robert Magin and Skate Park Committee members Don Camp, Karen Camp, Sherri Sheldon and Otto Meijer.
Mayor Monson opened proceedings by welcoming everyone and explaining that the purpose of the meeting was to inform the Town Supervisors about the availability of New York State funds for youth summer activities, like supervision of a Skate Park, through the office of Ms. Shockley. Ms. Shockley then explained that a maximum of about $3,000 NYS grant money will be available for the four Towns combined next year (2009). Each Town will have to apply separately for their allotment and then turn the funds over to the future Skate Park administrator. This grant money must be matched 50/50 with money raised privately, through non-government grants or donations in kind, for building, maintenance or supervision of the Skate Park.
The four supervisors were in favor of supporting the Skate Park initiative in this way, especially in cases where there is no competition with other recipients of the State grant. They will bring the proposal before their respective Town Boards at the next meetings and report back. It was proposed by Karen Camp that Town of Butler Supervisor Dave Spickerman chair the Supervisor group for this task, assisted by Don Camp. This was acceptable to all present.
With regard to getting an agreement for use of the NR/W Middle School tennis courts as a Skate Park, Mayor Monson pointed out that the Towns have somewhat more authority than the Village, so they are in the best position to make the agreement with the Schools. This agreement will be prepared by Mr. Spickerman representing the Towns and Mr. Magin from the School District.
After the agreement has been reached, the Skate Park Committee will start detailed planning for the Park, as well as fundraising, grant writing and publicity efforts.
